The North Parish Climate Justice Group is screening the documentary “Cooked: Survival by ZIP Code” on Tuesday, September 24, at 7 pm at the North Andover Historical Society.
They would love to have you join them.
What: Chicago suffered the worst heat disaster in U.S history in 1995, when 739 residents—mostly elderly and black—died over the course of one week. As COOKED: Survival by ZIP Code links the deadly heat wave's devastation back to the underlying manmade disaster of structural racism, it delves deep into one of our nation's biggest growth industries: Disaster Preparedness.
When: Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 7 pm.
Where: The net-zero North Andover Historical Society Stevens Center (map), 800 Massachusetts Ave, North Andover
Why: Summer, 2024 was the hottest on record, replacing Summer, 2023. Extreme heat causes more deaths than any other extreme weather, according to the National Weather Service (over the last 30 years)
