Why Is This Initiative Important

Boxford is difficult to canvass. We have no public sidewalks; residents don’t expect canvassers; Boxford has 2-acre zoning and distances between addresses often have to be traversed on heavily trafficked roads with hard-to-find houses. 

This, in turn, means elected officials have less of an incentive to prioritize our residents, which leads to a diminished information flow, lower voter turnout and engagement and, ultimately, fewer opportunities to engage with our elected leaders.

Obversely, our elected leaders understandably see it as disproportionately more resource intensive and costly to reach Boxford voters than, say, those in heavily populated areas with sidewalks, shops, public squares, and natural meeting venues. And this, ultimately, results in a local voter base that is less informed and easier to ignore.

Creating a new network

That’s where we come in and you can help: The purpose here is to return to first principles: rebuilding an engaged community. You know the peculiarities of the area (and your neighbors) better than any of our politicians ever could. You can help us create a network off the Facebook hellscape of like-minded people—starting with Boxford voters who are either registered as Democrats and Unenrolled.

Email-based

And to activate, communicate, and engage with Boxford voters regularly, we need people to register their email addresses on our website or simply scan the QR code on the door hanger.

We send out only a single email a week and we don’t share subscribers’ email addresses or other contact details with organizations, political campaigns, or businesses. (Oh, and we don’t fundraise.)

How’s the BoxfordDems doing with this effort?

We have found that every 12 door hangers distributed result in one signup at our website, which is an astonishingly good response rate.

How do I get involved?

Find streets near you and email us at chair@boxforddems.org, which route appeals to you. We will then deliver door hangers and other materials (if relevant) to you for distribution—and, if relevant, also a t-shirt--and register the households as having been covered.
