Trump 45 and 47

Half of all U.S. voters decided they were fed up with a super-strong economy, breathable air, science, decency, acceptance, and respect for law and order. As we saw from 2017-2021, MAGA world has a short memory (see below) and a very high tolerance for buffoonery and active malfeasance.

To that end, we’re compiling a real-time list to document the Trump-47 outrages that have already started pouring in. Trump’s goal is to “flood the zone,” so it’s entirely possible we won’t be able to keep up.

It is a collaborative effort that might come in handy to remind the Massachusetts voters that stayed home in November or voted Republican what they voted for. (See also the 236 Trump-45 events below that probably should have tipped them off.)

Cabinet nominations

  1. Trump nominates Matt Gaetz to serve as Attorney General of the United States. Gaetz has little legal experience, is a known congressional obstructionist, universally disliked by his fellow congressional colleagues, and credibly accused of having sex with a minor among other crimes,

  2. Trump nominates Pete Hegseth, a Fox News weekend host and veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to lead the Pentagon and its 1.3 million active-duty troops. Hegseth is known for his extremist view and total lack of administrative experience.
We have never held Hegseth’s battle with the bottle against him, but urge him to seek help. Helene Cooper and Maggie Haberman, “Trump Picks Pete Hegseth, a Veteran and Fox News Host, for Defense Secretary,” New York Times, November 12, 2024.

  3. Trump nominates Syria and Russia-friendly Tulsi Gabbard to lead the U.SA. intelligence services.
David Klepper et al., “Gabbard’s sympathetic views toward Russia cause alarm as Trump’s pick to lead intelligence services,” AP, November 17, 2024.

  4. Trump nominates Dr. Mehmet Oz, a heart surgeon with no experience running a large federal bureaucracy to run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which provide services to more than 150 million Americans.
Noah Weiland et al., “Trump Plans to Nominate Dr. Mehmet Oz to Oversee Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare,” New York Times,, November 19, 2024.

  5. Trump nominates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., anti-vaccine activist, all-round eccentric, and brain-worm host, to lead the Dept. of Health and Human Services.
Lauren Weber et al., “10 RFK Jr. conspiracy theories and false claims, in his own words,” Washington Post, November 15, 2024.
