BoxfordDems subscribers weigh in on Sunday hunting.
Our readers have weighed in on our new survey, this time on hunting!
Brief background
Hunting is currently allowed in Massachusetts Monday through Saturday during hunting season. As of two weeks ago, the State House included a Repeal of the Sunday Hunting Ban in the Environmental Bond Bill, S.3064.
Hunting is currently allowed in Massachusetts Monday through Saturday during hunting season.
Pending reconciliation
Provisions regarding Sunday hunting, crossbow hunting, and archery setbacks stripped from the House budget were added back in the bond bill. The House version is pending reconciliation with the Senate version of the bill (which does not include the repeal of the Sunday hunting ban).
S. 3064 was amended to include the following provisions:
A repeal of the ban on Sunday hunting in Massachusetts
An expansion of archery hunting laws to permit crossbows for all hunters
A reduction in archery setbacks that would significantly increase land access, particularly in eastern Massachusetts.
We had 27 respondents, none of whom identified themselves as hunters.
If you are interested in keeping the Sunday hunting ban, reach out to the Chairs of the Senate Ways and Means (Michael.Rodrigues@masenate.gov) and the House Ways and Means (Aaron.M.Michlewitz@mahouse.gov).
